"If not for the help of the people at 4-C, I probably would not have secured the funding I needed to expand my business. They worked with me and came through with a loan package that was more than acceptable. They also helped me recover after the flood of 2001. They understand the trials of the small business person. I am thankful that this area has this organization."

Reaching the Summit 2013: Trinity Works Update

There is a great deal of interest revolving around what might be happening on site at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in the New River Gorge Region.  As fits so well in Fayette County, it is all about planning.  Since the announcement in November of last year, most of the activity at The Summit has revolved around planning for the permanent home of the National Jamboree.

As proof of the extraordinary amount of planning already underway, consider the following list of contracts awarded to date for the project:

•    Master Planner of Record:  Hart Howerton - New York, NY
•    Environmental Consultant: S&ME, Inc – Charlotte, NC
•    Geotechnical Consultant: S&ME, Inc – Greensboro, NC
•    Landscape Architect: Andropogon Associates - Philadelphia, PA
•    Pedestrian Bridge Designer: Hatch Mott MacDonald – Charleston, WV
•    Utilities Design Consultant: Terradon Corporation – Nitro, WV
•    Sustainable Water and Wastewater System Consultant: Michael Ogden with Natural Systems International – Santa Fe, NM
•    Roadway Design Consultant: RPM Engineering – Charleston, WV
•    Traffic and Transportation Consultant: Wilbur Smith Associates – Charleston, WV
•    Forester and Timber Management Planner: Richard Grist of Mountain State Land and Timber - Lewisburg WV
•    Timbering Contractor: David Ryder Contracting – White Sulphur Springs, WV
•    On-Site Rock Crushing Contractor: Kanawha Stone Company – Nitro, WV
•    Gates Installation: Hightower Welding – Kilsyth, WV
•    Security Consultant and Services: Cramer Security – Beckley, WV
•    Marketing Consultant: WELD – Oak Hill, WV

As it is currently designed, the Jamboree site will consist of three regional camps.  Ten troops of 40 campers make a neighbourhood of 400 where restrooms and showers are provided.  Five neighbourhoods handle 2,000 campers to make a sub-camp.  Eight sub-camps equal a regional camp.  A total of three regional camps and one adult camp are combined to form the Jamboree camp which will consist of approximately 40,000 scouts and 7,800 staff.

Timbering is now underway on the property. As designs are completed, grubbing and grading will take place although these contracts have not been awarded to date.  Part of the landscaping discussion is centered around the utilization of native vegetation by transplanting existing trees and plants that are already growing on the property.  This will provide the Scouts with a mature, sustainable vegetation mix.

Additional contracts for site work and construction will be forth coming as scopes of work are developed.  For example, bids for the grading portion of the project are due from pre-qualified contractors on July 22nd, 2010.

Trinity Works, the developer for The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, located its offices in Mount Hope, WV.   Trinity Works restored several offices and meeting rooms in one of Mount Hope's most historic buildings.

A Transition Team has been formed consisting of top echelon Boy Scout leaders. They are expected to focus on developments in West Virginia after Jamboree 2010 has ended in August 2010.
